Are dog crates cruel or kind?

Dog crates. Some people call dog crates cruel. Why would you want to put a dog in it's own box. Isn't that cruel?

Dogs are descended from wild dogs, specifically wolves.And what do wild dogs do when they sleep at night? They certainly don't like to sleep out in the open, rather they seek out and use a den.

A dogs den is a small place where the dog, and it's young can use as a place of their own. A den is their home in some ways, and wild dogs seek out small dens to call their own.

So a dog crate is really just a dogs den, and once they get used to it they love it, it's their own space in your home. A dog crate isn't cruel if used properly, your dog will love it.

But introduce your dog to hiss crate as early as you can, and get his to use it right from the start.

However a dog crate can be cruel if used the wrong way. It can be a good discipline tool if used correctly, but cruel if not. And if you use it to lock the dog up for long periods for your convenience then that can be cruel too.

So a dog crate is fine idea for you and your dog, but learn more about how you should use it. Your dog will love you for it.
